Corrugated Aluminium Sheet used for Unique Building Project
Every building is unique but some are more unique than others! This is certainly the case with Pilot House, a bespoke holiday home that incorporates corrugated aluminium sheet proudly supplied by BS Stainless. The impressive structure was designed by Roderick James Architects and the images that accompany this article are reproduced with the kind permission of the photographer Nigel Rigden.
Pilot House is located on Scotland's stunning coastline, offering breathtaking views across the ocean. The building is extremely unusual, combining graceful curves with clean, aesthetically-pleasing geometric lines. With two floors, Pilot House is a stunning, highly-creative structure, enhanced in both practical value with an outdoor balcony running around it. As well as offering myriad practical uses, the corrugated aluminium delivers unmatched visual appeal to the architect-designed structure. Anyone who choose to stay at the Pilot House holiday is guaranteed a unique experience.
Though the location of Pilot House is undoubtedly beautiful, it is also extremely exposed and so the architects required excellent performance in terms of wind-proofing and thermal insulation. Our aluminium corrugated sheet was therefore the perfect choice of cladding material.
Aluminium has many qualities that make it ideal for external cladding, particularly in exposed locations. Its relatively light weight makes it easy to handle and the material strongly resists corrosion; profiling adds extra rigidity and strength to the aluminium sheets, as well as improving wind deflection. In addition, aluminium is 100% recyclable, making it a particularly environmentally-friendly option.
BS Stainless extended our product portfolio to include corrugated aluminium sheets after noticing growing demand from the construction industry for high-quality building cladding. As the housing market continues to boom in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, this demand looks set to continue growing and BS Stainless is ideally placed to meet it.
BS Stainless supplies aluminium corrugated sheets in a range of different sizes and with profiles including box-shaped and trapezoidal. A selection of finishes and surfaces, such as plain, stucco, embossed and coloured, is also available subject to minimum quantities. We can also supply corrugated sheets with a moisture barrier comprising a combination of polythene and Surlyn® or with an acoustic product incorporating mass-loaded vinyl.
The Pilot House project will feature in Scottish Homes and Interiors magazine at the end of October and is being filmed for Channel 4 later this year. Watch this space for updates!
