The BS Stainless Dragon Boat Challenge!

Dragon Boat Challenge

The BS Stainless team work together closely to ensure that we consistently deliver the highest quality of stainless steel materials and products to you, along with comprehensive, intelligent technical support and customer service. These skills are going to come in extra handy on 9th June as team members take part in the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce annual Dragon Boat Challenge!

Dragon boat racing began more than two thousand years ago in China. It has a rich and colourful history, beginning as a folk ritual between rival villages in about 500 BC. Though practiced for thousands of years as a ceremonial and ritualistic tradition, dragon boat racing has experienced a rebirth as an international sport in modern times.

A dragon boat is, as the name suggests, designed to look like a Chinese dragon. At the head stands a drummer, who helps to keep the paddlers in rhythm. The tail end is occupied by a helmsman, who steers the boat as it cuts through the water rapidly. Powered only by human effort, dragon boats move with surprising speed.

Today, dragon boat racing is the fastest-growing water activity in the UK. Plenty of team spirit is required to win and that means we are most certainly in with a chance. The Chamber's Dragon Boat Challenge will see us and a number of other teams fighting it out in a tournament-style competition, with different races taking place during the course of the day.

We'd love it if you could come and cheer us on; Dragon Boat Challenge takes place on Saturday 9th June, starting at 9am. The venue is in Preston, Europe’s largest inland dock (full address: Navigation Way, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston, Lancashire, PR2 2YP). Sign up to our newsletter for news of how we do!
