New Lamination line for cladding and jacketing

Our latest and biggest investment see our new lamination line for adding specialist coatings to a range of metals including Aluminium and stainless steel. The state of the art machine manufactured in the UK embraces the latest technology to deliver industry leading products.

Having worked with Sheffield Hallam University’s Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI) to develop new innovative products, alongside DuPont™ for their coating expertise. The new machine has the ability to dual coat material simultaneously at high speeds.

The array of coatings is both wide ranging and believed to be the first in the world to deliver such a wide range of solutions on one in-house processing line.

Acoustic barrier – Aluminium, Stainless steel and other metals can be bonded with a high density mass layer to deliver a labour saving and improved barrier to noise. The Mass Loaded vinyl product is branded Soundmet® available in 5kg/m2, 7.5 kg/m2 as standard but other versions are available to meet industry demands. Another alternative is Vibromet®, an environmentally friendly version to Bitumen with equivalent properties bonded to metal for ease of application.

Tedlar® (PVF) Coating - this film provides a long lasting protection and aesthetic value for oil and gas pipelines as well as architectural applications in extreme outdoor environments. The coating can preserve and extend the cladding’s appearance and life expectancy by not fading, cracking or corroding. Tedlar® can significantly reduce maintenance costs as it is stain resistant and easy to clean. For LNG plants it delivers high emissivity to reflect heat away, this technology can also be used to protect buildings against exposure to direct sunlight. Tedlar® has over 50 years of proven performance. Normally combined with stainless steel or Aluminium it’s branded as Tedmet®.

Moisture Barrier – mainly demand for oil and gas metal jacketing or for heating and ventilation industries as an internal barrier. Many insulation systems have a vapour barrier to keep moisture out. This means that water can sit on top of the barrier which in the absence of the barrier would be trapped under the metal and cause corrosion hidden from site. A combination of DuPont™ Surlyn® and Polyethene is the answer, also helping prevent mould growth. This coating is factory applied by the new line and branded Drymet®.

Film coating – for further protection during fabrication, metal can also have a peel off PVC film layer added as a temporary measure. This can be applied to both sides of coil simultaneously or just one side with various thicknesses and types of film coating including laser film.

The main strength of this new fully automated machine is the combination of options and the dual coating facility resulting in materials such as stainless steel or aluminium to have a top coat of Tedmet® applied at the same time as Drymet® to the underside with great efficiency. All programs are stored and backed up ensuring coating speed, pressure application, temperature for each application can be repeated accurately time after time.
