LNG Projects: From Siberia to Japan and Beyond

A recent edition of the BS Stainless blog reported on the proposal for a new LNG plant in Siberia, the second large-scale project led by NOVATEK. LNG is of global importance and, reflecting this fact, exploration for LNG sources and subsequent construction of LNG facilities is happening all over the world, all of the time.

Oil-and-Gas

BS Stainless proudly supplied stainless steel material to the first YAMAL project in Siberia and are set to supply further products to ARCTIC LNG 2. We have also supplied materials to many companies in Japan, a country that is heavily involved in the LNG industry. One of the projects which has made major use of our metal jacketing products, as well as countless ancillaries, is the Ichthys Project.

The Ichthys Project began when the biggest discovery of hydrocarbons in Australian waters in the past four decades was made, over 220km offshore. With an operational life predicted to last at least 40 years, the LNG plant was partially built offsite in modular fashion, before being finished at the final site in Darwin, Australia. Contractors working for INPEX have been using material supplied by BS Stainless for several years.

Japan is home to a number of companies which are currently highly active in LNG work: these companies include Chiyoda, JGC and Toyo. With our impressive level of knowledge and experience in supplying stainless steel materials to LNG projects in Japan and the rest of the world, we are ideally placed to work with these companies. As well as products from our 'Met' family such as CoolMet, DryMet and SoundMet, we can also supply all necessary ancillary products like banding, screws, toggle latches and wire, meaning that we are well placed to support future maintenance.

An overview of the metal jacketing and cladding materials has been produced in Japanese and is available on the BS Stainless website. For more information, get in touch with our expert technical team.
