Duplex Stainless Steel Products from BS Stainless

Duplex stainless steels have a structure that combines the austenitic with the ferritic, resulting in a metal that has significantly higher tensile strength and resistance to corrosion. BS Stainless supply a range of components made using duplex stainless steel: these components are widely used in offshore oil and gas applications, as well as in other situations where chlorides are present (such as in the marine environment).

Two of the most common grades of duplex stainless steel are 1.4462 and 1.4482. Both of these grades have been made in Europe for many years but a company in Asia, a long-term, trusted supplier to BS Stainless, has recently developed production in this area.

Duplex Stainless Steel Wire

Duplex Stainless Steel Wire

BS Stainless is the largest UK supplier of stainless steel wire and our collection has been enhanced with the addition of duplex grades. We can now supply various types of stainless steel wire in duplex grades 1.4462 and 1.4482. Our duplex stainless steel wire and its many applications across the industry will be our primary focus when representatives from BS Stainless attend the WIRE exhibition and conference later this year (subscribe to our newsletter for updates on this event).

Duplex screwDuplex Self Tapping Screws

Screws made from 1.4462 duplex stainless steel is three times harder than those made from standard (grade 316) stainless steel and boast a PREN value of 38, meaning that they are classed as seawater resistant (to achieve this classification, the PREN value must be over 33). The increased hardness means that the thread is much more resistant to damage. Duplex stainless steel screws from BS Stainless are available in a range of sizes and can be supplied with HNBR, EPDM, polyamide or neoprene washers as required.

CUP A4 Duplex rivetWaterproof Rivets

The first product of its type to be guaranteed 100% waterproof, closed cup rivets from BS Stainless are manufactured from a combination of grade 316 stainless steel (rivet body) and 1.4462 duplex stainless steel (rivet mandrel). The combination results in a rivet that is strong enough to ensure a seal that is impervious to water ingress. Check out our video to see how they compare with standard blind rivets.
