Low-Cost, Environmentally-Friendly Acoustic Barriers

The problems involved with applying mass loaded vinyl (MLV) and steel separately were solved by BS Stainless with the design, development and manufacture of SoundMet. This innovative product combines the two disparate elements together, offering a cost-effective and efficient method.

As price is such an important factor for businesses when making purchasing decisions, there is a strong demand in many industries (such as automotive, construction, power generation and cladding) for a low-cost alternative to MLV as a dampening product. One such alternative that has emerged is bitumen sheet, which is relatively cheap and particularly versatile.

Though it has the qualities of versatility and low-cost, bitumen sheet is a poor alternative to MLV for many reasons. To begin with, it is very difficult and costly to recycle and needs a license to dispose of in the first place. It is also almost impossible to achieve compliace with the guidelines set out by REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) when using bitumen sheet.

BS Stainless have created two options that perform just as well as bitumen sheet at a similar price: VibroMet (with metal) and VibroMat (without metal). These products are made using PVC which can easily be recycled in its entirety. The material can be supplied bonded to all kinds of metal from aluminium and stainless steel to aluzinc and aluminised steel. Rolls can be supplied with a peel-off backing if self adhesion is required.

Industries that require factory-applied acoustic barriers at a competitive price but wish to maintain high green credentials can benefit from VibroMat and VibroMet. Find out more details on our website and get in touch with our technical team for expert advice.
