CE Marking case study

Having earlier this year been awarded CE Marking for our stainless steel products for use in the construction Industry, we thought it  was worth explaining more about how we did it with help from Sheffield Hallam's Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI) . This is a dynamic interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to addressing industrial problems through the application of fundamental science and engineering. Below you can find out details of the  background in a report prepared by them.

The company wanted their products to achieve CE approval. This coveted standard of stainless steel production is a key indicator of a product's compliance with relevant EU legislation in terms of; health, safety, environmental protection and energy efficiency.

BS Stainless approached our Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI) and with the help of our dedicated team, BS Stainless were able to secure a grant from the Manufacturing Advisory Services towards the approval process. We were also able to provide facilities and technical expertise to help the company conduct tests on their products – the most important part of the audit process, as it demonstrates the properties of the products which are subject to CE standard approval.

BS Stainless is now CE approved for its stainless steel coil, sheet, strip and wire – one of the first British stainless steel processors and distributors to achieve it.

By affixing the CE mark, BS Stainless are now able to declare their conformity with EU regulation, improve their products' credibility while also assuring customers of an improved product quality. With European health and safety regulation becoming more and more stringent, the approval has also placed BS ahead of the competition.

A survey carried out by the London Stock Exchange Group has now placed BS Stainless among their list of '1000 companies to inspire Britain.'

Brian Shaw, managing director of BS Stainless said, 'I am extremely pleased that we have gained the CE marking approval. This proves to our suppliers and customers that BS Stainless is committed to providing an excellent service and that we are always looking for ways to improve our products and services.

'Sheffield Hallam University has significantly supported BS stainless throughout the CE approval process. We were able to work closely with them to establish thorough testing procedures developed in their state-of-the-art laboratory. We would like to thank them for their immense support.'

Overall it was a succesful project for both parties, BS Stainless continue to work closely with Sheffield Hallam and look forward to developing new stainless steel innovative products in the future.
