Stainless Steel: Sustainability & ECOTEGRITY!

Among its many other qualities, stainless steel is one of the most sustainable materials on the planet. This is due in no small part to its infinite recyclability,  combined with its exceptional strength and durability that allows it to provide a extensive useful service life and thus conserve both resources and power consumption.

This inherent sustainability is, however, not enough for the BS Stainless team! We want to ensure that we are doing as much as we possibly can to reduce our environmental impact and that is why we have created our 'ECOTEGRITY' project. The term combines ECOlogy and inTEGRITY, symbolising our ongoing dedication to environmental responsibility and commitment to a strong ethical approach to all of our business operations.

A key element of our ECOTEGRITY project has been working towards achieving ISO 14001 certification. The ISO 14001 is 'the internationally recognized standard for environmental management systems (EMS)' and exists to provide a strong framework that allows companies like BS Stainless to design and subsequently implement an EMS. Adherence to this well-defined standard demonstrates that we are taking a proactive approach to minimising our impact on the environment and are complying rigidly with the appropriate legal requirements.

The BS Stainless team has been working extremely hard over the last year to achieve ISO 14001 accreditation. We started by carefully analysing every aspect of our operations, identifying all areas in which these operations can have potential negative impacts on the environment. Using this data, we have crafted a solid environmental policy that encompasses several objectives, most notably reducing our use of energy and paper and the amount of waste we produce.

Strict measures have been put into place to minimise environmental impacts as much as possible as we work towards achieving these stated objectives. In addition, we have developed clear procedures that are to be followed in the event of any emergencies, such as spillages or fires, that could potentially result in harmful environmental impacts.

BS Stainless has dedicated extensive investment in our ECOTEGRITY project, in terms of both finances and resources. Key changes that we have made as part of the project include the installation of an array of solar panels on the roof of our premises to provide green energy, as well as changing all of our lighting to low-energy LEDs. Furthermore, all of our company cars are now powered by electricity.

These are just some of the changes we have made and there are lots more to come in the future.
